Vacation Sensibly

I went away, down south

for a much needed vacation

the bus ride was bumpy.....

while the train ride serene

I settled in to sit and read

my new copy of the CBB magazine!

It was a thrill to see

my words in print

the story about my last 18 years,

how I am dealing and coping

with this condition- having a tumor

a foreign growth sitting inside

my head in a most precarious spot

It sat seemingly dormant

for years and years, then

one day it decided to grow

funny how I always teased

when I hit the top of my head

that I would someday end up

with a tumor, who knew

it would come true too!

Yet, I am alright so don't you fret

for each day I am thankful

and hope that this foreign matter

is shrinking into oblivion

each moment I struggle to

make my life matter

through my writing

But while on my trip

I got battered, bruised & blistered

my burns are fading

my bruises too!

Only my blister has been

the most painful, damn sandals

it sits right smack on

the bottom of my foot

(near my toes)

a very sensitive place.

I am glad to be home

got my writing hat on....

or is it called a thinking cap

to get into the groove

of finishing stories of old

that had been started before

my tumor was zapped with

some high frequency radio-waves

never felt a thing, but had a good nap

while listening to some Jazz!

Sleep, I get to much of

dreams, don't remember any

at least no nightmares

crept into my psyche

from reading the works of Addams

can't wait to read more of his

spooky stories and poems

so many good writers,

that it seems not enough time

to read them all, yet I try

in fact, right after breakfast

I'll be back again reading more!

Must nourish my brain cells

get the synopsis firing

in the proper sequence, and

hope I can compile

my thoughts in a legible order

to impress someone

if not myself while

dealing with the pain

this blister is causing me

ouch- it's painful” I say!

Then during lunch I'll

finish reading the stories

that were chosen for the

fabulous CBB magazine

something for everyone

some sad, tragic, and also happy

each writer has excelled in

how their stories unfolded

I say bravo to each one

who contributed to this

timeless work, along

with all the beautiful photo's

that had been chosen too.

My trip was a success

I am well rested, and

could not get enough shrimp

these tasty morsels are good cold

even through the pain

I have to say,

There's no place like home!”

Author's Note

Ice QueenJen
I know I should have chosen a wonderful shot of San Diego, but thought I'd share my blister with everyone. And remember to wear sensible shoes, take plenty of sunscreen and a hat with you when walking around or going to the beach! And keep plenty of shrimp on hand to eat whenever in the mood!
