The Mad Musings of a Jackass
The Arrival of a Guest
After watching the Princess for what seemed like hours, I ambled back to the barn to eat. As I was eating some hay, this horse wandered into the barn.
“Hey” I said while munching.
“ Hello” The very large brown horse replied back.
Rufus and Katie were still inside was alright. And Billy was somewhere off being his destructive self. I remember once the Princess caught him eating in her vegetable garden. Boy was she ever angry, and even threatened to have veal that night.
This horse seemed to be polite, because he stood and watched me eating. Never said anything, and at first it didn't bother me. But after a few minutes of the horse staring, it really began to bug me.
So I stopped eating, backed up and looked at him “Can I help you with something? I don't particularly like being stared at while I'm eating?”
The horse looked around and asked “ Your master around?”
I answered “ Yeah, she's sick inside the house. Why do you want to know?”
The horse replied cordially “Well, my master sent me here to help your master, the Princess. He felt bad about leaving so suddenly, so he sent me to alleviate the burden that you have had to bear. You don't mind do you?”
“Nah, it would be nice to have someone to talk to. Well, Rufus and Katie aren't so bad, but Billy is so stubborn sometimes. Maybe we should find him, before he gets into the Royal Garden. By the way what's your name? Mine's Jack and its nice to meet you.” the Jackass said.
“Oh just call me Hannah, and its nice to meet you too” she replied nonchalantly.
“Billy, oh Billy where are you? Better not be in the royal Garden. You know the Princess doesn't want you near her plants, whether she chooses to eat them or not. Ah, there you are right where I thought you'd be. Now get your rear-end out of the Royal Gardens. She may decide that she wants veal for dinner instead of chips & dip!” Jack said emphatically.
Billy walked over then said, “ But I'm so hungry, since you got back this last time she's been sick. What am I going to eat?”
Jack answered “You know very well I have plenty of hay in the barn. That's what you are supposed to eat, not her garden. Unless she gives you scraps, or leftovers.”
Billy hung his head down, then sullenly replied “ I know Jack, I am sorry. It wont happen again.”
Jack happily replied “ This here is Hannah. The Prince sent her to help out the Princess. Now I wont have such an aching back as she will carry the master, and I'll carry her supplies!”
Billy laughed, then said “ You mean her fat a*s wont have to bear down on your back anymore!”
“ Now be polite, you're in the presence of a lady, Billy!” Jack replied in a cordial manner.
Hannah bent her head, and shyly said “ Oh I'm not such a lady.”
“ Sure you are Hanna, just like that pretty white filly that comes trotting by” Belly remarked while winking at Jack.
“Mind your manners Billy” Jack harshly remarked back.
“ Oh nothing I haven't heard before” Hannah said sweetly.
“ Well he shouldn't talk about things like that, at least until you've been here for awhile” Jack stated giving Billy a harsh look.
Hannah stood quietly while Billy was being reprimanded.
She started to walk off, and back to the barn to eat some hay. Billy didn't move from the spot he was standing in, like he was frozen. He was stunned at how Jack treated him.
After a few minutes Billy was finally able to muster the courage to move, then said “ I'm just going over here and away from you for awhile. Just until you are in a better mood, something rank must've crawled up yer a*s. Oh wait you are Jackass” then sauntered off while laughing.
Jack hadn't noticed that Hannah left until he turned around.
“Ah shoot, where did she get to now?” Jack said a little agitated.
So he walked over first to the house, peeked in and saw Rufus guarding the Princess. Katie was laying on the back of the couch above where the Princess was sleeping. It seemed as if the Princess was finally getting better. Jack smiled then went to locate the whereabouts of the new filly.
He found her eating some oats that he'd forgot were even inside one stall. He watched her munching down on the oats for awhile. Then cleared his throat to let her know he was here. Hannah looked over at Jack, then smiled. She had these long beautiful lashes, and deep brown eyes along with a very sturdy chestnut colored body. It showed that her master took real good care of her. And that she was more than able to carry the burden of a two-ton fanny!
Jack stood there watching the young filly, then replied “ My, my you sure are a hungry one. Slow down, I hope you don't end up like the Princess!”
“ Oh no chance in that Jack. I got a note here in my saddle for the Princess to read” Hanna replied gleefully.
“ What's it say? Jack inquired.
“ Now how am I supposed to know. I can't read silly " I'm a horse, not a people.”
Jack piped back “Person.”
Hannah chuckled back, “for an a*s you sure are smart, huh. You're not only Jack A*s, but a smart a*s too!”
“Very funny” Jack said in a sarcastic way.
Hannah turned to walk out of the barn, then said “ I thought so!”
As she walked off, Jack just shook his head. © 2010 Ice QueenJenAuthor's Note
