The Mad Musings of a Jackass

     The Sickness

I warned her!

Well, as best as I could do seeing I am only a Jackass! I wondered what happened to my owner, the so-called Princess. So I wandered over to the window, and spied inside.

See after our last trip into town, she nestled into being depressed. The Princess set into eating and eating. Soon I heard moaning and groaning, and I know it wasn't from having any company. Well, I am just saying that after her last fling, no one has even dared step foot over that threshold. Besides she takes up most of the room " so where would he sit? I'm just saying, she's not as skinny as she once used to be.

But as I peeked in, I actually felt sorry for her. She was laying on her couch, clutching her head with one hand, and her enormous belly with the other. I think she had what you humans call the “flu.”

If only she'd eaten better, maybe she wouldn't feel so bad. But then again who am I to say, being a lowly jackass. Hell, I am considered lower than my cousins, the donkeys. Yet we basically do the same things- carry heavy loads for you humans. But geeze, I don't think I was made to carry her fat a*s around.

It's been a whole week, and the kinks have finally gotten out of my back! Since her last trip into town, I have had to exercise my legs by myself. Oh sure the goat is here, goading me about staying in one place too long.

He says to me “ You just stand in one place eating and eating, and your a*s will begin to look like hers!”

Well my eyes got big, and I cocked my head to see my behind. That's when I began to walk around; first inside the barn- then I unlatched the door. It felt good getting out and walking for a bit. Then getting to drink some fresh clean water....... mmmmmm. Even Billy, he's the goat, was happy to get out of the barn. To finally drink some water, see it's essential for the production of good quality goat's milk. And when the Princess starts feeling better she will need some milk to drink.

The cat and dog began to mew and howl from being hungry. So I went over and pushed the door open to let them go inside to find their food. It's a good thing she had left some out for them, I don't think my hooves could reach the shelves to easily. The dog ate, as I stood over the Princess, she looked dead. But Rufus, he's the dog went over and nudged her. She stirred then shooed him away.

I am real sick Rufus, real sick- leave me be” she moaned quietly.

So Rufus barked then licked her had. Then he looked up at me, as if to say ' I'll stay and watch over her.' So Rufus and Katie ( thats the cat) stayed to keep vigil the rest of the day and night. I shook my head, brayed and walked toward the door. Once outside, the air was fresher, and I began to explore. She had a nice place, only slightly run down. Maybe after she gets over this flu, she'll take better care of herself and her home. For now us four animals will take care of her and the place.

Soon it was time for Billy and I to go back into the barn for the night. We slept real good after a day of walking around. Plus knowing Rufus and Katie were watching over the Princess allowed us to sleep soundly.
