a chestful of childhood

Chestful of Childhood

Thinking back

of sweet days gone by

 times that were simpler

from sun-up to sundown

with the games we'd play

Hearing mother calling

“ it's dinner time”

as we sat  up in the tree

trying hard not to giggle

as we hid so carefully

Our backyard pool

cooled off the heat

from a scorching summer day

as we jumped off the roof

only to splash and play

Also days of making puzzles

and the  board games, too

from spinning the dial while playing “life”

to gaining   “Boardwalk”

from the game “Monopoly”

Such days were grand

as we children played

 with no responsibilities

we'd run and play

all day

 now all we have

are  happy dreams

and a

chestful of childhood.
