The Old Gnarled Tree
I'm like an old gnarled woman, yet I stand tall among my fellow trees. Some new, others old but not like me. They all look up to me for my wisdom and strength. Oh the beatings I have gone through over the ages. But my life goes on, and I am still growing. It won't be long and these old bones will be covered with new growth in the form of green leaves.
It's winter now so its time for me to rest, even though some stay green like the mighty pine down the road. The wind is starting to blow slightly, moving these old limbs of mine. Some have toppled over, but my roots are deep. So this has helped me to stay here where I was first planted, in amongst the others on this plot of land.
I live in an empty yard, the house that stood here burnt down long ago. The people of the house went away, where I do not know. So here I still stand, among my fellow brothers and sisters. I suppose they look up to me like a mother, even though I am not. Being as old as I am it's a wonder they haven't come along and cut me down. I'm sure they have though about it, but I show them that I am very much alive by sprouting wonderful green leaves every year.
Even though I'm old and gnarled with age, nature has been good to me. So I stand here sleeping until the time to wake up and show the world how wonderful life can be on this planet of greens, blues and every other color our Creator has given us. Live life like I have to the fullest way possible and be kind to one another. © 2014 Ice QueenJenAuthor's Note
