Romantic happenings

 

Malcolm Barry never did marry

Because he was too awfully shy

Whenever in another’s company

He could not look them in the eye

 

He would stare approvingly at another

But did so only from behind

Eventually this sort of association

Was pleasingly pleasant he did find

 

He finally became involved in romance

Tho’ always looking the other way

But with another, he took a chance

And did pair a romantic foray  

 

T’was on a night, with stars so bright

He took a brave facial glance

But the fright of another’s sight

Ended their brief romance

Even tho your poem feels like a spoof on shy guys, there's a serious grain of truth mixed in with your playfulness. In my youth, I was so self-conscious, I would ruthlessly examine my own words & actions to the point of not paying attention to the other person's shortcomings. In this way I was easily duped. Maybe that's why I turned out to be a crusty old biddy now *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

actually, I think that to whatever degree, everyone is shy
For instance, it is easier to reply in print than it is to talk face to face (you mean it isn't) at least for me.
I can't imagine such a congenial correspondent (ie. you) actually being a crusty old biddy
Crusty old biddies rarely wink unless something is in their eye!
