Brainwires

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

Alice never really lived there
Anyway
The song said she did. The movie said she did
Alice did you really live there anyway ?

Who were you really Alice ?
Was Alice your birth name ?
How was your Alice childhood
Happy sad ??

Movies come and go
Songs come and get forgotten
But
For some reason Alice sticks
In my muddy inquisitive mind

Alice Alice Alice !!!
Shut up I say
She
Doesn’t live there anymore

Where are you Alice ?

Much later after coffee

Stella !!!!!!
Now Dont me started !

Mick you move like jagger

Take a walk on the Woodside
You mean Wildside

My brain says take a walk ok
I’ll get my boots on Nancy

I’ll feel better soon
I’m sure

I hope

I slam the screen door

Three little pigs wave to me
As they drive past

What’s worse waving back
Or ignoring

My brain
My wiring

It’s ok said the postman
Those pigs
Try to run me over
Every Dam day

Do they now
I asked

Looking at the empty road
No postie or car to be seen

I Check my mail
Go back inside

very clever write Julie...you aren't the only one whose brain gets scrambled once in a while.... our world is so chaotic that it literally spins our brains so that we say silly things and then don't remember them....
I loved all the movie stars, films and singers all mixed up inside...you're not alone!
Warmly, B

morning Betty, thanks again for your review hope you are well.
Julie,
Isn't it wonderful that we do not have thought bubbles following us around so people could see the jigsaws we keep tossing into the air? Imagine a crowd milling around downtown with all those thought bubbles bouncing off each other in the midst of all the noise of traffic and talking, and electronics. On the other hand, it would not be far from the reality we deal with every day... We exist in a world we were not built to thrive in, and everyone's Mindis always ajumble.
I LOVE this poem! What it says is an important statement about the thrashings of twenty-first century living... I could have used it when I was still teaching.

morning Vol, thanks again for the review enjoyed it
I found your poem quite engaging. It creatively explores themes of identity, nostalgia, and the interplay between media influences and personal introspection. The musings on Alice's portrayal in songs and movies, mixed with references to cultural icons like Mick Jagger and Nancy Sinatra, create a dynamic and thought-provoking narrative. The whimsical encounter with the three little pigs adds a playful touch, while the postman's anecdote adds a layer of surrealism. Overall, it engages with themes of memory and perception in a captivating way. Loved it!
