high u p in the rafters

high u p in the rafters

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

a tribute to all the stars of yesterday seeing the oscars draw near

"
a cough
a whisper
a sniff
a gentle whiff
of perfume
of long ago
they are here
watching
eyes with tears
high up in the rafters
wishing they
were down there
from the rafters
up high
they see us
see the awards
the laughter
the tears
the memories
not so very long ago
'twas them
them reapplying their
red lipstick
pouting
smiling
radiant like gold
handsome like
statues
from an oscar
seems a lifetime gone by
but never forgotten angels
they watch
from way up high
in the dusty rafters
a toast to them
tonight
way up in the rafters
i can feel them there
can you?
just stop and close your eyes
blot out all this noise and din
you will feel it and know its them
smiling from the rafters
down to  the stars below

A nice freeverse tribute. The Oscars seems an emotive time and we get sucked in. I guess we all feel nostalgic about various famous people and you capture that here.

Yes thanks so much for your review !🤗
THIS IS SO BRILLIANT! Truly one of your best! This is so imaginative, I'm totally arrested right away by your repeated use of the word "rafters" . . . so informal when the event is so formal . . . love such contrasts. Nowadays I don't get out to see new movies & I'm too poor to pay to view current stuff. That's why I am stuck in the past, still thinking the old stars are the ones I long to see more of, still believing the old movies are the ones I could relate to better. You capture so much & then you evoke a ton more (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I do miss the slower days. Sitting on the rafters, watching the stars going by. I enjoyed your words and thoughts dear Julie. New world, everything moved too fast. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thanks so much coyote
I remember all those fabulous actors and actresses from years ago. Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Humohrey Bogarde, Lauren Bacall, Gregory Peck and their ilk. There was a touch of romance about those characters you don't seem to get with the current lot. The Oscars remind me of them and where they are now. I miss those old movies. Thank you Julie for the memories. Hope all is good with you
