River

River

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

Who knows where this is going writing as I go

"
Her mouth was closed
That dreary day
The spills of oil
Along her banks
Like bark beneath
Her mossy growth
The sunlight came
That early morn
And the fish
They swam
At fisherman’s dawn
Oh river
Oh wild river
Let me always be
On a boat
Just afloat with thee
And on my girth
My rivers worth
I’ll sail from your dry
Mouth
One day
To oceans salt laced
Windswept
Waves
I’ll surely be

I love the idea of writing a lullaby to a favorite river. I hope I can remember this idea to write about someday! *wink! wink!* Your observations are mixed, tho . . . somewhat loving, somewhat sad. You’ve painted this relationship between narrator & river as if it’s mocked by the same pitfalls that we might expect in a human-to-human relationship! This is the ultimate in personification & I love your originality (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

So profound, to float away on a river to the ocean and never to return to the place you left... If only there was reality in floating away to somewhere else.. I love the way you took me on your private journey... Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem

thanks for this lovely review sorry for late reply though
Flows so beautiful. Almost reads as reminiscent of the sound of the water or waves going by. So fluid. Incredible.

thankyou for your kind review sorry this reply is 5 months late
I love the river and my family are boating people, so I especially enjoyed reading your poem. There is nothing better in my opinion. I pass a great deal of my spare time in summer on the Thames, and the scenery is breathtaking both at sunrise and sunset. Sounds as though you have the river in your blood, I certainly do. It courses through my veins and features a good deal in my poetry. A pleasure to read your poem.

I love being on a boat. Anchor out by moonlight and let the motion of life lull me to sleep.
The only thing better is fisherman's dawn.

A beautiful song for the river. If a river could sing. Would wish for open sea and escape from men waste. Thank you Julie for sharing the amazing poetry.
