white noise

white noise

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

Was driving home recently one night from work this happened it was cold I was tired and it was dark

"
Cd broken
No more Cohen or CAt Stevens
Or Beatles songs or Dylan
Tried all radio dials
And buttons I did push
Push twist turn and I swear
Red lights
Green lights
Umberellas at all junctions
People shouting in the dark
Get me home from work
Away from all of this

Light rain
My wipers nearly shot
Heavy traffic cars angry
Sitting impatient in same spot
Friday night rush
Tired hungry reaching for my
Store bought decaf
I push those buttons
And unsilently I do swear

Tried my radio till I give up
White beams of noise and light
In the distant cold dark night
No songs for me that night
That long hour drive home
No favourites here
Just annoying crackle of white
Of a distant song
I couldn't hear a noise that night

I would of liked to hear one human voice
To keep my mind and body soul alert
To show that in this lonely
Country road another voice was heard
Alas my radio gave up the ghost
That cold rain driven night
It has put its songs to rest
I had to sing and talk to self
What loners do so very best

Yes it is trying but we survive

I would hate it if my radio went out in my car.
