The ringA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
He placed it on her finger
So many years ago Their vows uttered in earnest So solemnly they promised he loved her that was sure His bride his beauty he did know He gave her the ring He earnt the money honestly From building houses many years ago From town to town he went And toiled so hard with tools in tow Her fingers so fine and youthful She loved him with a fire And in their marriage bliss They had five kids between them And never missed one goodnight kiss Their life was perfect even in the Tough times they had The Good times evened out those bad So as they got much older Her rings she still wore But now that time has stolen Their youth it is no more He sits in rocking chair alone now He looks at photos black and white His cat and dog lie shoulder to shoulder It's all he has now His kids and grandkids visit The ring sits on his dresser And her photo she is in it A bride of beauty youth long ago He remembers every word Every gaze every smile and Shyness in her Her ring it sits alone on dresser now It served its purpose all their days It's diamond in nights purple haze She no longer here But as he picks it up and looks He can feel her fingers in it And in his dreams she reappears Each night And wears her ring it fits her bright So he sleeps at peace In purple light © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Reviews
