I write this last Anzac DayA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Anzacs
Our boys not quite yet men
Barely out of school Some put their ages up Hoping to join their older siblings In this their unknown raw fate The mums And dads left waiting The hankies soiled forever with tears of love and pride Of missing their boys even before they'd bade goodbye and hope of safe return But The telegrams they came Came at dead of night Came at break of days Came in noon daylight Came to towns in land afar United in our stand The prayers some of which were answered Some of which too late Some were left unanswered and no reason for their dire fate Australians had such courage Australia had bread our best These boys who never returned To those who loved and missed them those brave young men who died so courageously in their Mateship and fearless in their unknown fate .
