Dawn and the birdA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Imaginary but can be true life
She looked up to the breaking dawn
The bird had long flown She tightened in the cold her Thin old blue dressing gown She walked to her back door Her dog waited patiently there In the end it was for the best For that poor caged bird to be freed So she sipped her now luke warm tea She missed its chirp and she whistled Their sacred secret favourite well played song Washing up now in tears She realised even if she lived a hundred years At least she gave that bird a half decent chance Of flight but oh it will be So scared and lonely in the night Her day she went through the motions Faking her smile to others Knowing she could not bear to tell her Truth to all That night she lay in bed And woke with the sound of her Dog barking at her door Could it be her little friend Yes he sat outside on windy perch She let him fly in and they were a happy Family dog bird and her once more © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Reviews
