Chapter 4

Chapter 4

A Chapter by Autumn Reign

The office was unusually quiet that day making it all the more noticeable that I was upset and with every co-worker that stopped by my cubical to make sure I was alright, the brick in my stomach only grew larger. At about three o'clock my mind was made up that I could not make it through the rest of the day so without giving any notice, I lead myself in the direction of the door. Unexpectedly, on my way out a familiar hand grasped the top of my shoulder disabling my legs to proceed any further. Through my peripheral vision my eyes caught glimpse of a man about six foot four and I could feel his warm calming breath on the back of my neck. Assuming that my husband would be standing behind me eager to accept my apology, I swung my body around wrapping my arms tightly around his head. As I began to detach my arms which were now numb from my secure embrace, the man before me slowly began to reveal himself. Those green eyes looked nothing like my husbands ocean blues, and that narrow jaw couldn't stand a chance on Owens.

"I knew you'd be happy to see me" He said in a low mysterious voice. He was wrong. As a matter of fact, he was the last person that I would have wanted to see in a million years. So I let him know just that.

"Sorry. You must have the wrong girl because actually, you are the last person that I want to see ever." I said. "Now leave me alone" I began to walk away eager to avoid any more of the conversation. However, my legs didn't have the chance to walk even three steps before he grabbed my hand with a grip so firm that my fingers began to change colour.

He began to speak again. "That's not going to happen Autumn. You see sweetheart, your career is in my hands and even though you're going to deny what happened in Boston to save your little marriage, I have proof."

"I told the truth Chase. Now back off!" By now he had been grabbing my hand so tightly that there was no longer feeling in most of my fingers.

"Then what's your problem? You didn't think twice about what's his face when you were with me. Why the sudden change of heart?"

I began to whisper "I made a mistake." then before he had the slightest second to reply, I stormed out through the door now knowing exactly what I needed to do.
