Map and a Knife

Map and a Knife

A Poem by Julianne Burch

Here eyes were dark,
dark as her heart.
Full with feelings of hate.
Disappointment is all I can see,
all I can hear.
I knew this could never last;
all the issues caused over time and time again.
I turn around and hear prejudice comments.
Every time I hear my name;
Its like a stab in the back.
Every time these scars get deeper,
Because this isn't the first you have wounded me.
I told you everything,
handing you a map and a knife.
Telling you exactly where you can damage me.
My only mistake is trusting that you never would.

Woah. That was beautiful, and I’m so sorry. You turned your pain into art, a relatable and moving piece. Thank you
