Almost Always

Almost Always

A Poem by Julia Ledo

You will always be my almost
My half full becoming half empty
The angel's share of the best wine.

My almost lover
Just a minute too late
Or a moment too soon

The would be's and could have been's
An epic love story
But a page behind

You will always be my almost
The road less traveled
The uncharted trail

The eighth wonder of the world
Already discovered
And I never got to see it

You were something
I couldn't have
Like a child I still reached

You will always be my almost
And its not nearly okay
That we almost were

We could have been an always
Very nearly star-crossed
But it was something with gravity and magnetic pull

We could have been the greatest
And I hold her no grudge
It's just

You will always be my almost
And always her been there
done that

Man! This cut to the core, it packs a punch that both wounds and heals. The heaetfilled yearning bleeds off the pages and leaves it's mess for the reader to clean up, but in the best of ways.

This is simply something special. A moving, relatable piece. The emotions stirred in this piece run deep. This has left me speechless..almost

Thank you for your kind words
Reading the poem reminded me of all the greatest tragic romance like Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hero and Leander, and Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl (If you're not familiar with them, check Wikipedia), where the lovers were on the verge of reunion but never happened. Their unconsummated love is reflected here. Really good. Keep it up and best of luck..

Rip my heart out and stomp it out of existence why don't you.

You know when crazy fans see their favorite artist perform live and they're like "OMG PUNCH ME IN THE FACE" (or maybe it's just my work that says that) but that's how I feel reading your poems. Julia, just punch me in the face.
