Mary Mary

Mary Mary

A Poem by Julia Ledo

Contrary to popular belief
I have never felt the fingers of my own darling
Intertwined in mine
Palm to palm
Even when it's hot
And your rings are just slightly too big
But your clammy hands
Hold on
Because you both feel the gravitational pull from your fingertips
The magnetic resistance
Stopping you from pulling away shaking the sweat from your skin
Saying "its much too hot"

Contrary to popular belief
There hasn't been a morning yet
Where I've woken up to the sunrise
And have been able to think of my own love
Compare it to the brilliance of our kiss
And find that even the sun falls short
Of the color behind my eyelids
When your lips meet mine
But I don't know them yet
Or if I ever will
Quite contrary

*basically incomprehensible dolphin sounding screaming*
this poem is just really important.
First of all, like all of your poetry, it's simply brilliantly written. The 'Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary' idea is just so smart and then the actual theme of the poem is really great. I feel like a lot of poets can relate to this. At least, I can. The idea of writing something out or just creating art of things that you yourself have never experienced. Once again, I'm totally in love with your writing and I share it with people because I can't keep it to myself.

sometimes we have expectations...and lovers just don't meet up to them...they fall short and we feel like we are only in love with a fantasy...not the real thing.
