Inspirational--The Light in the Dark.

Inspirational--The Light in the Dark.

A Story by Julie Grenness
"

A story of unrequited love, an inspiration.

"

Inspirational--her name was Luna, the moon. She was the light in the dark, radiating peace and tranquillity in her moonbeams. Luna was a timeless ship amid the stars, a whole universe as a church.

Luna shone in the dark, adored by countless generations of earthling on Terra Firma, Planet Earth. The bipedal humanoids worshipped in diverse ways. Scientists studied Luna from afar, endless data collections of images. Lovers revered Luna, who blessed their subtle unions.

Poets and bards envisaged far more in Luna than astronomers could ever see. A dark, handsome callow poet pondered youthfully, the moonlight an inspiration to muse. His eternally moving pen inscribed epic odes to Luna, his focus. The youth loved and sang, serenading the world in his midnight hours.

Time passed, love persevered. To the moon, the youth was forever young. In his darkest times, his yearning glance would beseech the changeless face of Luna for guidance and any response. "Two-faced Luna!" he would plead. Luna sailed on through the night sky, unperturbed. To her, love was ageless. Luna's unblinking eyes loved her buccaneer, but always from afar. The lover and Luna grew no closer, nor further apart.

Torn between the worlds, night and day, the lover despaired. The futility of his unrequited passion for Luna tormented his days. His restless nights were quenched by the serenity of Luna, light of the dark. Luna and her lover were forever entranced, mutual attraction. He danced, he composed, he chanted and sang. Luna calmly welcomed his adoration. He was a vessel, a bridge channelling mankind's endless fascination with Luna.

To Luna, the youth never grew less handsome, he never aged. His voice was clear and ardent as always, while the world crumbled around him. Anarchy roared, but Luna and the lover remained oblivious. Luna had no rivals in her lover's esteem. Hours he spent yearning for an answer from her. He reached for the stars. Years elapsed, nothing changed. He loved and sang, it was love across the miles of atmosphere and space. Cold, dark and unyielding space, lit only by Luna, a light in the dark. Luna was a pearl, forever cloistered in the heavens, serene and smiling her translucent blessing on her beloved. He was never to grow old or pass away, ensnared in time by a web of affection

and pointless  romance.

"Make me stop loving you, Luna," the youth would sing, his original compositions misunderstood by fellow humans. Luna was silent, ever loving, but mute. Benign, her gaze dwelt in love for her poet. Luna was content, resigned to love from afar.

So, the  generations came to be born and passed away, leaving the mortal coil, spinning through space as stardust. Luna never wavered, she and her youth lingered unchanging, ever constant in their nocturnal embrace. To him, Luna was more than a light in the dark. She was peace, love and infinity, tranquillity, obsessive love unfulfilled,

futile but ever satisfying.

Yes, the poet saw more in Luna, the moon, than any scientist would envisage and determine to him, Luna was the one, the all, his light in the dark, perpetual love. Luna and her lover, forever in love.
