THE NOISE IN THE WASHING MACHINE....A Story by Julie GrennessA different fun writing prompt.THE NOISE IN THE WASHING MACHINE.... The noise in the washing machine turned out to be......well, it was a mystery to me. Another sunny Saturday, the usual loads of washing, dutifully sorted. Only an average day of normality in average suburbia. I piled in the washing, added laundry detergent, switched on the washing machine, and proceeded to get on with yet another day of super housework. "Three degrees coming through, time to mop the floors and clean the loo.." My dull contemplation of the vacuum cleaner and the toilet brush was interrupted by an immensely peculiar sound emanating from the region of the laundry. "Oh, expletive deleted, don't tell me the cats are in the wash again!!" I hastened, laundry bound, the noise was bewildering. After nearly tripping over both my feline fur friends, I deduced, like old Sherlock Holmes, that strange sound was not caused by my cats being immersed and rotated. Yes, all looked normal enough. I lifted the lid on the old Hoover automatic. Suds foamed, the sunlight pouring through the laundry window created an iridescent radiant rainbow. A small Pegasus abruptly erupted from the load of washing! Pegasus, the sparkling steed, flew upwards and around the house, very strange. The air was heavy with enchantment, a thick spell woven in the home, by gleaming white Pegasus, fluttering in circles. Bemused, I gaped in awe and wonder. "I know this is Miracle Laundry detergent.....but...really," I blinked and rubbed my eyes. The cats gathered forces, fur raised, hissing, claws sharpening. But this Pegasus heeded not. "Well, so ,,, Every home should have one, I guess. This'll make a change from My Little Ponies!" Dumbfounded, I sat down, collapsed in stupor, abandoning all delusions of super housework, and scintillating clean surfaces. The Pegasus was having fun! He, (gender unknown), alighted on my shoulder. I tasted ambrosia, a mystical healing, sat there in reflection of true beauty. All was well with the world. What did it matter? Was it so important in the end? I decided to make the most of my day. So, the noise in the washing machine turned out to be Pegasus, the messenger, appearing through an open doorway of perception. "Make the most of today!" © 2015 Julie GrennessAuthor's Note
