Story Line

Story Line

A Poem by julie holland

I left the bedroom blinds open when I went to sleep tonight.
The streetlights shown brightly through the windows,
reminding me of the city.
I was less lonely.
I thought of you.

A car drove by, and then,
as if on cue,
a taxi,
that wheeled my memories into our story line-
the same one from so long ago.

But tonight I missed the interweaving
of fading memories
into this story-
a story so easy to recall
even when the memories are fleeting.

And as another car drives through the stream of streetlights,
breaking up their steady shine into my bedroom,
the story falls to fragments too,
and I'm lonelier.
I think of you.

Tomorrow night I will leave the bedroom blinds open when I go to sleep.
The streetlights will shine brightly through the windows,
reminding me of the city.
I will be less lonely.
I will think of you.
