Story of my life.

"

Ever since she was little she dreamed of the perfect boy that she could spend the rest of her life with. There was a little boy who had been her friend, it could be said, since before birth that had played such a role in her younger childhood. He even bestowed upon her their first kiss. Years went by and her parent’s protection hindered her from getting involved with any relationship leading to such. Her romance had seemed to end with that boy. Finally right before her sixteenth birthday she was reunited with him for the first time in many years. He wasn’t a little boy anymore that much was obvious. She couldn’t be sure, but she felt a connection between them immediately and she knew deep inside that her feelings for him had transformed into something much different and greater, but what could she do about it? She had decided to give up on taking things into her own hands and instead she desired to wait on God’s plan for her life and his timing to bring that special someone into her it. She didn’t want to loose this boy, but she remembered a quote that said, “If life gives you a second chance it was because time wasn’t ready for the first one. If it’s meant to be it will come back to you.” She decided to let go and she began to wait. Patience in God was all she had left to hold onto. Her love story was being written in the heavens and she was waiting for it to be published.

She walked through life feeling somewhat tired of how things were and she wanted change, but she kept on letting that part of her life rest because for now she had God’s arms that she could run to. One day she received a text message that said, “The worst thing is holding onto someone who doesn’t want to be held onto. Don’t fall for someone unless they’re willing to catch you. The thing about falling in love is that if you’re right, you’ll never hit the ground. Life is too short to be anything but happy. So kiss slowly. Love deeply. Forgive quickly. Take chances and never have regrets. Forget the past, but remember what it taught you. Sometimes you just have to smile, pretend everything’s okay, hold back the tears and walk away. If you want to see the rainbow you must go through the rain. If you want True Love you must go through the pain. Women were made from a man’s rib, not from his head to be superior, not from his feet to be walked on, but from his side to be equal, from under his arm to be protected, and from next to his heart to be loved.” She couldn’t help, but think of the boy that had once again dropped out of her life.

Little did she know that this boy was feeling the same way and the whole while she was walking asleep through life he was praying for her and fighting off any attacks that were thrown at him by other girls that he knew weren’t right for him. Until the day finally came when God’s finished masterpiece was able to be viewed by the world. The childhood sweethearts were reunited for the final time and with a kiss the spell was broken. Love had never been sweeter.

            She wondered how Walt Disney was able to get God’s permission to put the story of her life into production or how singers were allowed to write lyrics based upon her life. She didn’t care that they had because whenever she heard the songs being sang or famous characters acting on the big screen she would look at that boy she had waited for, would know that her patience had persevered, that God was in control, and that his plan is the only thing worth while. She closed her eyes as she heard a patter of feet across the tile floor, then a little body climbed up onto her lap, looked up into her eyes and asked, “Mommy, who was your first love?” She smiled remembering the quote she had always wished would come true. She opened her eyes and stared back into the eyes that were held unwaveringly on her. She pointed across the room and said, “He’s sitting right over there.”

            The alarm goes off and I mentally pry my eyes open. It was just another dream of what I imagine God’s love story for me might be like. I dreamed the end, but not the beginning. The beginning never changes. A tear slips down the side of my cheek because of how much longer I might have to wait, but a smile comes to my face knowing I will never have to face this alone. My phone vibrates and I flip it open to see a new text message. It’s from him. The sickening butterflies erupt in my stomach for the hundredth time as I read the words typed on the screen.

“Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime;

let me lead you from your solitude. Say you need

me with you here beside you. Anywhere you go,

let me go too, Amanda, that’s all I ask of you.”

I turned my face upward and smiled at God, “Thank you!” I whispered. I fell back onto the bed trying to hold back laughter and the butterflies that kept hitting the walls of my stomach. I am now awake and I am now alive.

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” – Dr. Seuss
