Sleeping BudA Poem by JennekaInspired by a friend of mine with a low self-esteem.She has very small hands. Small features, she’s a small girl. She lives in a small home with her small family. She flashes a small smile to the people she cares about. She doesn’t know that we love her. She looks at herself in the mirror with disgust, comparing herself to others. She points out her flaws, and wishes to replace them with something beautiful. But even her flaws are beautiful to us. We throw every compliment at her, every wonderful truth that we see. She doesn’t believe us. She probably never will. We’d do anything to show her. Her smile could warm up the bottom of the ocean, And her eyes could light the sky. She’s got a big heart She pulls at her clothes nervously around the people she admires. She doesn’t know that they’d do anything for her. She doesn’t think that they think anything of her. But they love her. We all love her. She has a big personality. She’s odd when she’s with the people she loves. She brightens every day, with a smile, a joke. She adds her little twist to every word, every sentence Making it her own. Her accent is faint, but we hear it. She is miraculous. To us, she’s big. A big influence. Inspiration. Muse. A sleeping bud, in her mind. We wish we could be anything like her, but we know we can’t. Nobody ever could. We want to show her. We want to drill it into her head, how wonderful we think she is. How much we envy the very breath she breaths. But she doesn’t know we love her. © 2012 Jenneka |
