fooled again

A Poem by Judy McIntosh
"

A poem in aabb

"
I was rudely awoken, one day from my nap
by a curious sound of continuous taps.
Under the ferns, he was making some shoes,
the noise was the hammer the leprechaun used.

I grabbed him gently, I thought that was best,
caught him firmly by his little vest.
"Okay, you win, you get the gold.
Let me go first, release your hold!"

I said, "no way, I know your tricks."
Then hung him up, in a tree, on a stick.
'What is the secret? I want to know,
where is your gold, beneath the rainbow?"

"First close your eyes, tight as can be,
just believe in the gold, then you will see!"
I did what he said, silly to trust,
opened my eyes, saw his trail in the dust.
