island princess

island princess

A Poem by Judy McIntosh
"

an abcb poem of Zanzibar

"
I'm feeling royal
in this Kingdom of sun.
Following footprints
made by Livingston.
The sun is King
and the ocean is Queen,
I am the Princess
that lives in between.
My courtyard of sand
warm and so white,
The cross with four corners
shines on me every night.
Sassy black crows
bold as can be,
are the court jesters
and they amuse me.
Sleek blue dolphins
are Princes at play,
racing and chasing
in emerald bays
Lime scented breezes
warm ocean spray,
blow through my crown,
I'm a Princess today.

Author's Note

Judy McIntosh
I spend alot of time in Zanzibar where I do indeed feel royal. The cross with four corners is the Southern Cross and Livingston refers to the explorer that visited Zanzibar.
