A Visit from My Mother

A Visit from My Mother

A Poem by jenna

Salty beads plunge down my cheeks

As I sit on a bed

Only to come to the realization

That I’m not alone

Upon my gaze is a stranger

Who apprises me to hold something

That was a sentimental to my mother

And nostalgic for me

A pendant that held a salamander-colored stone

Appears around my neck as I clasp it within my hands

“Close your eyes and focus”

The stranger disappears

As I flutter my eyes shut

Forgetting everything around me

When I open my eyes

There stands my mother

Youthful and healthy

Her crystal blue eyes full of kindness

Unlike those I feared when she was alive

She stands afar

And tells me to close my eyes

I fear to as I don’t want her

To leave me as she had once before

But I follow her request

And continue to meditate on the pendant

I’m surrounded by warmth

When I open my eyes

A flow of jade swirls surrounds me

As it warps into a figment of a hand

And touches mine

I blink,

The hand dissipates

The warmth fades

As she leaves

Again
