Working on the walkway

Working on the walkway

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Hello.
Hi?
Sorry,
 I'm not used to this.
 Don't care to draw attention.
 Just like doing my job.
Take care of the orange trees,
 trim the suckers.
Bringing back one of the rose bushes.
 Dog got overzealous,
so the rose recovers in the pot.
Strawberries are a problem.
The tortoise keeps getting into them.
Even seems to be checking to see if they're ripe.
Anyway,
 that is the backyard.
The front-yard is different.
Feels like a decoration,
 and so much dead space.
Pretty,
 but rigid.
Some looking like a plastic show.
Not this one.
I follow instructions,
 and these were a treat.
"Play.
  Keep a work in progress,
if only to explain any mess.
 Create unexpected  beauty."
Like the look of the walkway.
  Mixed the stones,
   color changes.
     texture.
Grass runners already sneaking over the edge.
Two days,
and it will have always been there.
Sorry,
I really need to get back to work.
Something in the backyard.

Late reply, and I appreciate the words.
I should ramble more!

I tend to ramble, and rarely explain myself. Take that as you will more..
