Gives me time to think

Gives me time to think

A Story by Jon Roggie

It began with the cats.

Having grown tired of their fragrant aroma,
I was left with one humane resolution.

The flowerbeds will be covered with paving stones.

Before anyone raises a cry in defense of a covered bed,
I will mention an interesting bit of information.

This is California,
  and we hope for rain.

The first project covered 112 square feet,
  minus two square.

Couldn't rip out the bush.

Shades the kitchen.

Needs a trim.

Sorry, I got distracted.

I haven't watered that bush in over a year.
Water trapped under the stones.

So,
 I move to the next.

Still,
 the cats.

Next phase is a mere 56 square,
but mixes with a few offsetting sidelines.

Knee surgery.
Global pandemic.
Race?
This might be the equivalent of the magnetic poles switching place.

Shop for the family.
Practice measures for comfort.

Niece graduates high school next week!
Managed to get a tank of helium,
and balloons of blue and gold.

Stream the ceremony.

Cats are still pooping in the yard.
I wouldn't mind it if they were my cats.

Still,
 that one is finished.

Next,
 comes the walkway.
At this point in time,
I have sifted a few tons of dirt,
 catching the odd nail,
and moved it to the backyard for the lowspots.

The cats have no clue what is happening to their toilet.

I still have no grasp on how to explain the world around me.

Back to the walkway.

Well at least the cats will be on the same wavelength of confusion and perplexity as us Jon.
When the poles switched, I was curious to see if all my fridge magnets wouldfall off, but I was watching them too intently and was too late to notice it was the world that turned on its head and left me buried under all the kitchen utensils I never get round to using.
Glad its not just me that has the feeling the instruction manual I got is written in foreignese. I'm sure it will start all making sense soon... Maybe.
