Art of a yard sale

Art of a yard sale

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Knowing the price.
You are trying to get rid of stuff you don't need.
It is all clutter.
A few coins would be nice,
 but let us be honest.
You would probably pay for it all to be taken away.
Anything expensive isn't out there anyway.
So,
you drag all of it out,
and put a few random price stickers.
This is where people doom the proceeding.
They set the price to high.
If you put a sticker on the item,
add a question mark to the price.
If someone asks,
 you simply say
"How much you got?"
"Sold!"
Do you really want to drag all of the things,
the ones you are trying to get rid of,
  back into storage?
Whatever is left is being donated anyway!

I've never seen anything so true & perfectly reasoned! Anything valuable is sold on ebay or amazon where we get more coverage. I quit doing garage sales long ago. Living in the boondocks, there are a fair number of hoarders (attracted to extra acreage) & also hispanics (many can't resist shiny trinkets), so I only need set out my junk & it eventually disappears within hours. Saves having to add up all that loose cash! *wink! wink!* I love your point of view & how you express it (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I really wish we had yard sales over here. We have to make do with car boot sales, which arent the same as its a businees, and ebay. I love the idea of all those no longer required goods and getting to have a right good nosey in other peoples business :)

Actually I wanted make also pemd about this subject. But I find it will be just ruin my poetic style. Anyway I think this sale are part of American culture and people will sell anything for anything. I find quiet boring spend, all weekend sta d at from table close to the road and on the day you will get like 20 bucks. I own minimum and I will not sell even my soul. Yes sorry I forget quiet good poem .

I usually donate most of the stuff we no longer need to charity shops unless it is an item of special value where we would sell it privately. We"ve only once done a car boot sale and that was quite successful because items were priced realistically. No point in being greedy and having to take everything back home. You:ve got to get the balance right.

Couldn't agree more Jon.
exactly! I was at a yard sale with my daughter and she saw a a stuffed animal for $1.
I said no because I could see from the tag it came from dollarama so it as a buck to begin with. I offered the guy a quarter and he said no so I left and bought nothing.
drove by at the end of the day and saw him packing everything. don't think he sold much. I generally donate my old stuff or trash it
