They had to poke the bear.

They had to poke the bear.

A Story by Jon Roggie

I will start with an apology.
This is the quietest place I get to scream.
I understand if you leave after the last statement.
I was having a good day.
Turned a coupon into a month of good food.
Bought enough food for the rest of the month,
 and didn't spend a dime.
This was completely legal.
 I get lucky sometimes.
Good mood,
 and smiles.
I am now hitting the point for which I am apologizing.
While I was gone,
 my brother called.
This is the brother who let my mom raise his kid.
It has only been fourteen years.
Apparently,
he thought it was time to get in touch.
He complained about seventy-five dollars applied to child support.
I have had more contact with the kid,
and due to a combination of situations,
I have put my life on hold.
Getting ready to supervise her junior year of school
I am already getting emails.
Plus,
somehow I wound up on the PTA.
By now it should be obvious.
I am not in a good mood.
I write this since I don't want to scare the neighbors.
My voice carries.
I hate this month.
