Understanding the dogs

Understanding the dogs

A Story by Jon Roggie

I can't understand the world around me,
and I am left trying to understand the dogs.
Excuse me for a moment.
Trying to get back on track.
The world is easier.
A place driven by greed and deceit.
It is easy to see,
 but hard to understand.
The dogs are a bit more difficult.
Woken at odd hours,
only to lead them to a door they won't approach.
I am unable to avoid the similarities.

Stick with trying to understand the pooches Jon, it may be difficult, but not as difficult as us and our propensity for making everything more difficult for ourselves. They are mans best friend after all. (and womans too, ladies)

At this time, one of the dogs has walked into my shower.
Ah yes, the 3 am bark bark "I wanna go out" , followed by "Wha? Who me? I never said I wanted to go out" - the moment they look at you with the big brown eyes you forget all about why you're frustrated ... there are things you think you "get" about dogs, and other things that are very confusing

This is an amazingly rare dog moment to capture in a poem. I love it when a writer notices such uncommon moments & expresses them so perfectly in words. You start out taking us on a bit of a chain-yank at first, which is fun, making us think you're going in a different direction with this. We all thought dogs would be easier to understand than people. That's the cantankerous stickery aspect of your bear-ness *smile* Fondly, Margie

When you look at what's going on in this world of ours, it isn't easy to understand at all. From my point of view a dog (well at least my grandson's dog Solo, who comes to stay from time to time) makes her needs known quite well. She is also very appreciative, and loves going for walks. I like going for walks too, so we have something in common. I find Solo far easier to understand than most things. She is also far less fussy than other members of my household :))

The dogs and I have conversations in the morning. They do not like the feeding schedule.
