Early morning driveA Story by Jon RoggieMemory which was sparked by Kathy Van Kurin
In my random cooking moments,
I found myself working in the middle of the woods. Working a camp, and somebody had to work another one at the same time. Yes, I drew the shortstraw. It was only one day a week, and I was already waking up early. Three in the morning, and I would start a drive. I would cruise along at twenty-five miles a hour. There is a reason for the slow speed. An elk is not what you want to hit. Sidepoint. Mountain lion warnings. You should be good. They only tend to attack in the night. Anyway, I would be driving in the forest, during the deepest part of night. It was glorious. You could see the stars, and so many you could not see in the city. I would take my time on the drive. Even if I pushed it, the trip would still take an hour. So, I would take a break, and pull over. Turn off the headlights, and look at the stars. Meanwhile, I could listen to the forest resting.
