Because I know Death

Because I know Death

A Story by Jon Roggie

She is a casual companion.
We seem to visit.
Not on a regular basis,
but we do recognize each other.
Shrug of the shoulders,
and she goes along with the job.
I don't blame her.
Sometimes we sit,
 her head on my shoulder.
She does need some comfort.

I have to be honest. I can't respond to this one.

and when I asked him why
he said because "you will".
I could dwell on that,
or just accept
we all need a little shelter
someone to keep us warm

I take it as I see it. Different perhaps, than others. Maybe the same ...:)

This is one of the most simply-stated & honest things anyone ever wrote about this situation. Visiting someone who's on the way out . . . what to say . . . nobody writes about how awkward it really feels or the reasons why we overcome the awkwardness. I tried volunteering at a home for the dying & I only made it one day. I volunteered at two animal shelters for six years tho. Not knowing what to say around an animal is much easier (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
