A touch of innocence

A touch of innocence

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Something I try to keep.
Instead of dwelling in cynicism,
I prefer looking at the world with freshly opened eyes.
It does take effort,
 and a touch of disconnect.
Can't really forget a lifetime.
Still,
 I constantly see something new.
I search for it.
A drive through the country might add a touch.
Little goats doing the jumping routine.
 Worth a stop,
  if only for a moment.
Better than watching a video.
Spotting a hawk in full dive,
unable to know if the prey was caught.
Cheetahs freezing in place,
and realizing they are watching the service dog.
All happening in seconds.
I watch like a child,
never knowing what might be seen.
