You will never know

You will never know

A Poem by Jon Roggie

If you don't make the attempt,
  how do you know?
Take a chance.
Case in point,
and it might give a clue to the mindset.
This was one of my older brother's ideas.
Now,
if you want to understand how this was possible,
I will only say it was during the summer in the early seventies.
My brother rigs the equivalent of a high line.
Set between two trees in the back yard,
you had around a twenty foot run.
The start was around fifteen feet above the ground,
and you had to time your drop and roll near the end.
My brother came up with a unique approach to the entire design.
He used the handlebars, and front rim of a bicycle.
Somehow we kept the rim on the rope.
We were able to use it for one day,
and it was taken down for safety reasons.
At the time,
we felt it was a bit extreme.
There had been no serious injuries at that point in time.
Plus,
we could still climb the tree.
Yes we were climbing fifteen feet up a date tree.
Honestly,
I still think we should have been able to keep it set up.
The hang glider we made was probably not a good idea.

The main thing is we would try.
Not bad for a bunch of kids under thirteen years old.
