Can we try to keep it straight?

Can we try to keep it straight?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Focusing on injustice,
 other's pain are swept aside.
Chance of unity,
 turns to ashes.

There.
I got the poetic part out of the way.

Now,
I have to combine history with modern views.

Sorry,
  I am in a mood.

Who has picked cotton?

Odd question?

People didn't pick cotton after the Civil War.

Yeah...

Tell that to my Mom.

You can look at the scars on her fingers.

This was after the polio.

Worked the orchards,
and at times would have orange sandwiches.

Still,
I hear stories about how rough it is.

This is a mix of comments I have heard. The orange sandwiches are true, as well as the scars..

I don’t know what to think about this odd collection of rambling observations & revelations! But I like it! I think it’s funny that you say “I got the poetic part out of the way” – but it’s not really poetic. Your writing is unlike anything I can compare it to, but your originality & honesty are very satisfying. I like the conversational tone sharing scattered thoughts about bygone times. I always heard about how hard life was (implying my own childhood was easy). Now I find myself saying that about today’s youth! I lived in the SF Bay Area when there were orchards for miles (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
