I heard a storyA Poem by Jon Roggie
Lost in my own misconceptions,
I wandered. Oblivious to many things, and seeing only a portion of life. Two people caught my eye. Older man and a little girl, and the man was on the defensive. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation. "I still have to answer 'Why?'" The girl nodded her head, and she giggled. Ordinarily, I would have turned away, but something held me. Then the conversation starts. "You don't wish for eternal life simply. There have to be other conditions." Now, to be honest, this is not a day to day conversation. "There are always consequences. One turns into a cricket, and another is haunted by a painting." The girl turns her head, and gives the older man a stare. He smiles. "I could tell you about a man with a touch of gold, or an angel who felt mistreated, but we are late. You do want your hot chocolate?" She nods her head. I can't help but follow. I hear the girl shout "Anne!" Hair faded to silver, eyes still emerald, and a kitten perched on her shoulder, tale wrapped around her neck. She looks at me. Shakes her head. Looks at the man. "Jon, you brought in a stray." Then she hands me a cookie.
