Perpetual Letter

Perpetual Letter

A Poem by Jon Roggie
"

For Jacob

"
Not might have been the original intent,
 but the creator hopefully approves.

We have a chance to create,
 or at least remember.

Our words carry.

So this is my letter.

Hands shake,
taking away the use of pen,
but my friends talk me through.

Lost at times,
  finding some sense of focus,
   grasping for meaning.

Words form before me,
 but still I wonder,
   who will continue the letter?

Your words are always thought provoking Jon, and this is no exception. I see the biography in our words as a journey that sometimes the writer doesn’t fully see, or understand, but for the few they currently work on. Yet isn’t the mark of the pen the mark of our lives lived, battles won and lost and everything in between that makes us, us.
Perhaps that is why I write, so that one day after I am long gone, some family member can find them, and wonder.
I don’t know why that idea tickles me so much, as I won’t be here to see it. But it does.
