Shadows in the morning light

Shadows in the morning light

A Poem by Jon Roggie

I always feel like I am showing up late.
  Honestly,
   I am fairly punctual.

Living in a California valley,
I am three hours behind the East Coast.
    Europe is even worse.

I wake as the sun is dawning,
while already the shadows are growing.

Stories are already starting,
  because hours before they happened.
Tragedies no longer in the making.

Brew the coffee,
and try to grasp what is happening.

Knowing my lack of control,
I plan my tasks for the day.
Maybe work in the sunlight.

I miss the West coast. I call my poor brother in San Diego at 2 am in the morning sometime. I forget the three hour different. I enjoyed the poem my friend.

I'm in Detroit. I have my great lakes now.
my parents lived in Sweden...not much daylight there...
sometimes our lives are so far behind where we want them...we do live in shadows...and fear of never catching up.

Sometimes it feels we are simply reacting.
