ReturnA Poem by Jon Roggie
After a night celebrating,
I took a slow walk. Still feeling down, I wandered toward the wharf. The water might mirror my feeling. Stumbling most of the way, I see the sea. I also hear sweet voices. "Walk a little farther, and take a swim." I hesitate. Mainly because I recognize the voices. Echoes of my childhood. "Come back to us. You have been too long away." The longing in the voice feeds my own. A pale hand reaches from the water, and I try to reach it. Cold water covers my head, but I still have a voice to say, "Let us swim, my friends. You might have to pull me along. Please take me from this place." Hands take hold, and try to bring me back home.
