Return

Return

A Poem by Jon Roggie

After a night celebrating,
 I took a slow walk.

Still feeling down,
 I wandered toward the wharf.
The water might mirror my feeling.

Stumbling most of the way,
 I see the sea.
I also hear sweet voices.

"Walk a little farther,
  and take a swim."

I hesitate.
Mainly because I recognize the voices.
Echoes of my childhood.

"Come back to us.
You have been too long away."

The longing in the voice feeds my own.

A pale hand reaches from the water,
and I try to reach it.

Cold water covers my head,
but I still have a voice to say,

"Let us swim, my friends.
You might have to pull me along.
Please take me from this place."

Hands take hold,
and try to bring me back home.

the prodigal son....please return...shades of my old days...being estranged from the family for a time...
i tended to be pretty rebellious...

Nice take. Granted, not beaten. More overwhelmed.
A interesting struggle in the poetry. Hearing voices and seeking the proper way home. The sea can be the teacher and the killer. I wanted to read and know more. Thank you Jon for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thank you. It is a bit of a random write, but the words seemed to flow.
