Do you know how to ramble?

Do you know how to ramble?

A Poem by Jon Roggie

For some,
 this is an everyday skill.
Glimpses of information,
 hidden in words seemingly unconnected,
  and somehow they wander back.

The easiest way to describe this,
and I admit I will probably stray,
is how some stories used to be told.

Gather the children around,
and I will tell a yarn.
  Not the gathering of strings,
those your elders worked at for hours,
      while they let you play.
I meant a simple story.
One which might have a lesson.

Now,
I know the young ones are rolling their eyes.
Here he goes again,
 trying to tell a lesson.

I don't mind because I am telling a story.

This is where you should pay attention.
  Why,
    yes,
I will take another slice of pie.

Where were we?

Knowing you were expecting your sweets,
and since you usually rush forward,
  I played the decoy.
Look at the eyes full of on confusion.

Now,
if you look at the table,
might notice it is not as full.
Some of us have had seconds,
 while you have barely started,
  yes,
a few cookies would be nice.

Don't look so down.
Do you think we let you miss?

Take it as a lesson,
one to which you should pay attention.
