I am getting irritable

A friend of mine,

 being kind to those around me,

   would often advise,

     "Don't poke the bear."

Now,

  I was the go-between.

I caught everything.

Needless to say,

 I could start to be a bit touchy.

Well and done,

 and in the past.

Still,

 with all the things said, 

   and done,

    I find it harder to stay silent.

Poke the bear.
