Blood in a sandal

Blood in a sandal

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Pay attention to yourself.
Little things may catch you by surprise.

Case in point.
 Moving stuff around,
   and a few pieces fell.

Glanced at my foot,
 and moved along.

A while later,
 noticed the dampness,
and it was more than sweat.

Nothing to panic about.
It was a cut in one of those spots.
Each move would cause it to reopen.

Caught it before leaving a trail.

Yes,
I almost left a trail of blood.

A touch dramatic?
  Of course!

If it makes you reread the first two lines,
  the rest served their purpose.
