So many stories

So many stories

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Friend gave a request.
She wanted one about stone mermaids,
    each showing their grief.

Now,
I will be the first to say,
   the old stories hurt.

A mermaid wanted to trade her tail,
  for a pair of legs.
She wanted to walk along the shore.
Something she had never done before.

Yes,
 she got her wish,
losing her voice in the bargain,
but many forget the other part.

Each step was on razors.

Leaving a trail of blood,
 she finally sits.

Silent.

Someone has to remember the story.

HOLY CRUD! This is stunning! At each moment, I had no idea where it was going, but each step of the journey is intensely described in a nonchalant way. This is superb writing arising from uncommon thinking! The descriptions aren't fancy, but the overall lesson is imparted in such an original way! This allegory could stand for a hundred ways we sell our souls & the final line is like an unexpected slap in the face! I love this! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
