I remember doing exactly this, having grown up at a very large lake & the water wasn't too clear, so you couldn't see the bottom, just feeling around with a toe, not wanting to become too mired in the mud. To me, it's a mark of brilliance to capture some basic thing like this, something many relate to, & then laying it out there as an allegory to send the reader's mind on a reverie of finding one's own meaning in your words (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Most of us have a memory like this. Nice to remind them.
Big hug back to you.

This took me back to when I was a kid, afraid of swimming pools, which I still am, being blackmailed into it with a scuba mask. The calmess of the pool was mesmerizing, so I can only imagine how amazing the view you speak of was, but it brought a little of that childish memory come flooding back to me.
Excellent write.

i remember so many times when swimming in the oceans and lakes doing this.
