One of those days, Part XI

One of those days, Part XI

A Story by Jon Roggie
"

Ongoing. The Roman numerals should be a hint. Honestly, I am having fun. Now I get doombook as the captcha. Give me a break.

"
It has grown too quiet.
There is a lot of muttering,
but not a single person has stepped forward.
Not a single one.
What has the world come to?
As usual,
 I blame myself.
Try to correct the situation.
Fesili grows still.
She feels it.
From my seat,
 I raise my voice.
Only to gain a touch of interest.
"May I ask a favor?
  One easy to be granted?
I would ask for a moment.
   One filled with silence.
   Everyone settled?"
Now,
  this is part of showmanship.
Someone shows up for a couple of minutes,
  and wanders away.
They might make a return.
This means I can ramble for a few minutes.
You do want to use your minutes?
"Why do we question?

It would be so much easier.
 Follow the path,
  never wondering.
Have you ever been in nature?
 Walking through the forest,
you will see the common paths,
    constantly traveled.
  Still,
   there are other paths,
    not highly traveled,
     but maybe worth a look.
   At various times,
I have wandered into poison ivy,
      but also a blackberry bramble.
   All because I wondered.
   Poison ivy was left behind.
   Blackberry became a fond spot."
At this point in time,
 eyes are glazing over.
Anne finally gives me a cookie.
I cough.
Another random comment from the audience.
   "What did he even mean?"
Still,
someone else finally takes the stage.
Fesili smiles up at me.
  "May I have a cookie?"
I can't help myself,
   "Why would you even ask?"
She gives me a pat on the cheek,
and goes to look for Anne.
