That one friend

That one friend

A Poem by Jon Roggie

We all have that one friend.
Let me tell you about mine.

First,
she will be having a bit of a different holiday this year.

She just flew into Nepal.
She even helped raise the money for the trip.

Odd vacation?
Medical aid trip.

Now,
she could be hanging out in Tempe, AZ.
Working towards her own house.
Not her.

She is one of those who not only cares,
she does something about it.

Not like she is a saint,
and to be honest,
if she ever reads this,
I will be beaten.

This is something she has been doing for a couple of decades,
and never sought attention.

I am glad I have that one friend.

What is it about those friends and showing their appreciation that always leads to beatings, playful or otherwise? The people who most deserve praise always shy away from it like it's a disease, but the world is a far better place for them and our lives are better for having them as a friend. You can tell her I said that Jon, she's too far away to reach me :)

Trust me. I plan on showing this to her when she gets back.
