The confident walk

The confident walk

A Poem by Jon Roggie

A friend of mine told me,
I don't walk.
I strut.

I told him there are reasons for that.

I fractured one knee,
and without the money for therapy,
I overcompensated.

Yes,
I still don't know what I have done to the other one.

The thing is I am not thinking about how I look.
I am just concentrating on where I am placing my feet.

Trust me.
If a bear was chasing us,
I would play dead.
Keep running.
Might distract the bear from me.

I have been thinking about how to respond to the multiple meanings of this one for a while now. The strut to hide weakness. The unintended way we present ourselves to the world. How we handle things that come our way.

Really powerful. Truth or analogy, doesn't matter.

Thank you, jacob.
Good advice my friend. All too often, it's all about how others perceive you that they think important, when the only thing that matters is the journey and getting to your destination. It is truly amazing what we as a species have done, but maybe we would be much farther along the line if we spent less time judging others on the frivolous and mundane, which seems to have a vice like grip on attention spans these days.

The funny thing is my friend knew about my knees. I was only watching my own feet.
