Every story a picture

Every story a picture

A Poem by Jon Roggie

Granted,
you leave it up to the imagination.

Still,
if you can tell a story,
you create a picture.

Case in point.

First try at spelunking.
For those who don't know recognize that word,
it means going into a cave.

Now,
we just called it caving.

Time to set the background.

I am going into a hole in the ground.

A little tunnel.

Yeah,
  this is a good idea...

Anyway,
I have to go in feet first.

Why?

The tunnel is about eight feet,
and there is a four foot drop at the end.

You kind of move forward on your back,
and bend when the tunnel ends.

Doesn't this sound like fun?

Anyway,
I have about four inches on each side of me.

Take into it,
you are pulling yourself forward.

At the point where both arms are unable to try to come near my face,
I look up.

There is a fairly large spider about a foot from my face.

First.
I notice the spider is not a venomous type.

Amazing how you notice the little things.

Second,
if it drops on me,
I will still be thrashing around like a beached fish.

Now,
here is the picture.

Someone thrashing around,
beating their head against a rock wall for no reason.

Passed through my head in a moment.

Moved through the tunnel real quick!

Lol! :)
At least you're honest about the spider.
I have no fear of insects and handle them often with bare hands but put me in a tight space like that...
Forget it.

I can see the spider saying "You are mine. Nothing you can do about it."

They're just cute little tickle bugs...
which is about how we are sometimes when faced with any dilemma, especially one of the thought type...we just thrash about and leave little room to think outside the cave.

this reminds me a bit of richard wilbur's "Mind"
"the mind like a bat beats about in caverns all alone"

I agree. I use Tumblr for motivation sometimes. Image of things make the mind wander and think. Thank you Jon for sharing the excellent poetry.

I will be honest. It was an "Oh, S**t!" moment.
