When you stopped

When you stopped

A Poem by Jon Roggie
"

Trying to come to grips with the current state of politics.

"
I realize the irony.
Adds to the anger.
You keep speaking,
but you have stopped listening.
To be clear this is not a relationship thing.
Well, it is how I relate to my country.
Fine.
This is a description of a bad date.
Ever been out,
and it could be perfect.
Everyone keeps talking.
The thing is they only want to hear their own voice.
Simple chance drowned out by words never to be repeated.
This is how I am starting to feel.
Now,
I have to make this a bit more depressing.
These are your friends.
You know these people.
You know them.
You know they stopped.
They stopped listening.
They stopped so early.
Now,
all that is heard are the marching cries.
Both sides sounding the same.
Echo of desire,
rather than words.
