Ugly shadow

Ugly shadow

A Poem by Jon Roggie

It seems to have set.
So many have given up,
no longer seeing a beam of light.
Trust me,
I feel it.
It doesn't have to be that way.
You don't stop.
There is always hope.
Think I am being naive?
I have proof.
One of my nieces developed cancer before she was one.
She was on chemo at nine months.
Released from the hospital just before Christmas,
and she was born in January.
I gave her a bear.
Bit different,
tinged in gray.
She grabbed it.
Now,
there will always be worries.
Might come back.
Sixteen years later,
and the bear has not left the room.
Forget the shadow.

I think you said it perfectly. Perspective is a good thing and too many people lack it.

Yes. Everyone has a story locked in there... The sharing is hard sometimes for people.

Sharing can be brutal.

That's for sure.
Yes, forget the shadow. What a beautiful poem, and story.

I feel most of us have a story like this. Remembering them when needed is the trick.
